I feel as if I'm slowly crawling out of the stupor I've been in for the last few weeks, at least as far as LJ is concerned. Very slowly, it must be said. Tent... tit... tive... ly.... Other stupors and befuddlements remain. A dullness has descended upon me, a comfortable contentment outside of work and a testy blankness when I'm at the office. I seem to be doing what I was doing 20 years ago, only with better technology and much worse clothes. Shouldn't I have made some kind of progress into the corporate echelons? Shouldn't there be underlings milling about to do my biding? Shouldn't there have been at least three extra zeros at the end of the number of stock options I got last week?

Just what are you supposed to do careerwise when you hit 50 and you aren't a VP, haven't made it to the board, aren't out on the golf course with CJ and BJ and JJ?
